Featuring: Le Courbusier’s Claude and Duval Factory is one of the most important industrial Modernist typologies still standing. The textile factory was built in 1952 and renovated by Le Corbusier on request of the Duval family. It is located in Saint-Dié des Vosges in France. We explore: Today the factory is still functioning and produce textile for renowned brands like Balenciaga, Chanel, Celine and Belgium Anne Demeulemeester.Le Corbusier worked on applying polychromy both for practical- and aesthetic reasons. On first level of the building for example colors are in line with the Bauhaus tradition: red for fire points, green for forced air, yellow for electricity, and blue for water. The current owner Rémy Duval has since carefully maintained the factory in respect of the architects vision.
