Featuring: The idea behind the Swiss pavilion was to create a hybrid construction between a developer’s architecture and a fitter’s architecture. It is situated in Paris (14th arrondissement) and designed by Le Corbusier. We explore: The Swiss pavilion is a collective residence of mainly Swiss students. The three floors house fifteen “simple module-drawer” rooms. The fourth floor comprises on-site flats and the library. Each of these units is independent of the structure, resembling a bottle in a wines rack – called the “box house” principle. The building was opened in 1933, but Le Corbusier made two further additions to it, both in 1948 and in 1957.
