Featuring: Christine and Robi's transformed former shopfront in Amstelveen, Netherlands. The Home: Originally built in 1905, Christine and Robi purchased this dilapidated property in 2009, complete with an old storefront, no foundation, and a dated interior. Their renovation journey began with stabilising the structure before tackling the essentials like the kitchen and bathroom. In 2022, they collaborated with an architect to add a bright and lofty extension, connecting the interior seamlessly to their garden bordering Amsterdamse Bos. Christine led the design vision while Robi contributed practical insights, making them a balanced, efficient team. The Style: Christine describes their home’s aesthetic as "Afriscandi", a beautiful blend of her African and Scandinavian heritage. The style is a fusion of minimalism, functionality, and hand-crafted elements, featuring natural materials and warm colours. This unique approach also extends to her homeware brand, Mukakasa, showcasing hand-made ceramics from Africa that reflect their home’s authentic, personal charm.
