Featuring: Skigard Hytte, the first ground-up project that Casper and Lexie Mork-Ulnes have built for their own family. The Home: Sitting between the forest and ski slopes is Skigard Hytte, a mountain cabin in Kvitfjell. Perched upon a hilltop, framing panoramic views of the valley and river below, the cabin connects to the ground lightly, allowing natural terrain to remain underneath and sheep to stand under the house, to protect themselves from the weather. The grass top of the cabin references the traditional sod roofs, common on rural log houses in Scandinavia until the late 19th century. The Style: The home is detached from the terrain while being attuned to its natural environment. The quiet and warm interior is a blend of Scandinavian straightforward practicality and Californian openness to innovation.
