Featuring: A classically restored 1920s hotel overlooking the marina in the small town of Vila Real de Santo António, PortugalThe destination: The hotel, built-in 1926 to a design by Swiss-born architect Ernesto Korrodi, was the first luxury hotel in the Algarve and set new standards for hospitality at the time. It became the social center of the town and hosted many foreign dignitaries and businessmen. Time and tide, however, took their toll. Presently, the grand salons, staircase, bar with original woodwork, and 31 rooms and one suite that comprise the hotel’s core have been restored with authenticity. The Style: It is rich with the small fishing town’s history and portrays the character of its past. The Grand House combines a Roaring Twenties’ ambiance with hominess and soul. Its Rich Façade is adorned with Baroque flourishes and its interior is airy and elegant opulence.
